but the quotes given are too dear. I'm wondering if I might as well buy a new set, and if so can anyone please tell me the price range?

well you can actually reupholster the furniture yourself.. there are various home improvement magazines as well as internet sites that guide you step by step in this task

you just need the fabric that you want to change, some nails, glue and other important stuff to help u in this process
