My little brother works at Mcdonald's and they have a new GM who's trying to make them

pay whenever they...? Whenever they get a refund on their drawer? Doesn't matter if it's $1 or $20. Isn't this illegal? I used to be a shift manager way back in the day and they never tried that back then. This lady hasn't really had training she was a shift manager that was promoted when the then current GM was fired after a ownership transfer. I don''t think she knows what she's doing..a few weeks ago she was trying to have the cashiers pay money back when their drawers were short but wasn't making any documentation, ie, she wasn't writing them up..Um..hello..can't do that either.

I'm pretty sure that employees are protected in the case of a refund because there's no way that the company could prove that its the employees fault 100% of the time and futhermore why wouldn't the GM just have someone drive in and make a $20 refund a few times a week for some extra cash? Sounds stupid yeah, but people are hurting for money.

If this were legal then surely employers would already be doing this. Am I wrong about this?

If you know the actual state or federal law (NC) could you point to it? Thanks so much.
I agree. No, from what my brother says she is trying not to write documentation for this either..which is really putting her at risk of being fired if someone complains enough. I don't want her fired, I just want her to seek out the right way of doing things. Now if I could just find an actual law that discusses it...
And she isn't doing it on a case by case basis, so no. If I understand correctly she intends it to be a blanket policy, universal to each and every case regardless of individual nuance and circumstances.

I remember when I was there..some customers don't speak clearly..this leads to refunds..Some customers don't even speak english and expect there to be a hispanic customer there to translate for them..there isn't always one..this leads to refunds too.
