My laptop isnt recognizing my samsung instinct(m800) via usb cable.......?

Ok guys, heres my problem. I have a samsung instinct(m800) and i want to put some ringtones on it via usb cable. Well, i know they have to be converted from mp3, and i have the website where they do that, Only thing is, my laptop isnt recognizing my phone. I bought the phone from another person so it didnt come with the cd software..when i connect the phone via usb cable, my phone just says 'Connected to Computer'. Do i have to download a usb driver? If so, where do i go to do so? If someone would pls point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
