My iphone wont pick up my carrier/ Service what do i do whats wrong?

I just bought an iphone from a guy on craigslist. The iphone was locked and i unlocked it with BlackRa1n. When i plugged my sim card into the phone the top left where the service is blank. There is one single bar and nothing else. It does not say At&t. im not sure if the phone isnt recognizing my sim cord or what
