My iPhone 3g screen is blank, why?

This type of stuff just happens. Take it too the apple store... As long as they don't conclude that there is water damage, you're fine. They should replace it with a new phone.

Yesterday my iPhone screen started to flash with a white screen. I tried to reset it by pressing the home button and the sleep/wake button and the screen went black.
Now since then it hasn't changed, the screen is constantly off but the phone is still on (I know this because I still get message alerts and my alarm clock going off)

I've tried reseting it
Tried charging it.
Tried plugging it into the PC.

The phone is jailbroken, i'm not sure if this could possibly be the problem? It's been fine though since february.

It is a 16GB iPhone 3G. Has anyone had this problerm before?

Please help!

(I have no warranty so therefore cant take it to apple and get a new one)
