My Internet browsers (safari, chrome, and I.e) are all slow as hell?

I know it's not my Internet connection because my friends laptop is doing fine through the same Ethernet cord, trying to do the same things I'm doing, also I can play mmorpgs with no problem. Scanned for any infected files with avg and nothing came up, no updates recently installed either. What could be the problem?
