my honda is acting up...any honda techs?

my accord has a problem shifting sometimes...it is fine when cold but when it warms up it wnt shift up through gears! honda says i need to replace the main pick-up assembly and the counter pick-up assembly...i thought these 2 sensors were for the speedo?? what do they have to do with the car shifting?
 
well if its an auto, (from what it sounds like), the pickup assemblies make the power from the crankshaft go to the wheels, if the assemblies are worn they will not grab correctly and therefore not engage the gears.

by the way is this a 4cyl or v6? if its v6 you may want to look into the recall that was put out if your car is within the specified years
