My gauges on my 99 mercury cougar aren't working. I've checked the relays any other

suggestions? If I idle or slow down the gauges work, if I speed up they stop. It first started about 2 days ago and they eventually started working again on my way home. I've had alternator problems before but it doesn't seem to be doing the same thing. My dad and I checked all of the relays and they appear to be fine.
