...can't get a job anywhere paying anything. what can
He can't get a job anywhere in a city paying more than $8 to $12 and I don't think he can live on that in a city. He has resumes in all over the country. He went to school for two years, paid $20,000 and can't find a job. There has to be some paying more than my cleaningn lady gets. He can't pay rent and eat on that and he is so good. MORE than willing to work. What should he do?

Some of these trade schools are in the business of "selling" occupations/skills that are no longer needed..

There are also plenty of people majoring in COMPUTER SCIENCE at college. Taking big student loans to finance an education rapidly going to India where the job is accomplished for about $8.00 per hour..

NOTE: about 10-15 years ago, a computer science major was "master of the universe"...

P.S. I also know a lad who spent $28,000 to learn how to be a surfing guru.. They took his money, and now he makes NOTHING to show for it except a lot of plastic trophys...

This is unfortunately totally normal situation after finishing a school or university.

What helps is very well written CV. Your friend has to make it look so, that the companies will want him. Not lie totally but a little half truths are allowed.

Also, he needs to have praxis. When you are absolvent (just after finishing school without any praxis) noone will take you. First he has to get some praxis, which usually means working for free or totally low salary. But a few months of this and the situation should improve (6 months to 1 year is usually the best).

I have no idea what the salaries for electronic technicians are in US.. but let's say this:

I have an engineering degree in Physics. And to get a job in this field (mainly optics, electronics and optical microscopes etc) I would earn LESS than a cleaning lady for the first year and I would still be lucky.
So I am working as IT specialist by IBM, have well paid job and can go back to Physics whenever and everyone will take me. It does not really matter in what you have praxis, most important is to get ANY job and work and show that you are good and can do anything you decide. But I am now too used to the money in IT and am leaving physics as a nice hobby for long evenings.

Also, in the CV should be his hobbies, which would show he has big interest in the electronics but also likes something else (play piano f.e.)

Good luck to your friend.

Electronics technicians are, in most cases, unlicensed. Pay scales can't be based on licensing or certifications, so they're based on experience and performance.

Even though being successful in electronics work requires some fairly serious education, in the beginning most electronics techs tend to be treated as skilled tradesmen. If he's just out of school, a freshly minted technician, he's probably going to work for $10-$12 an hour for a while until he's proven himself. If he's good, he'll prove himself quickly and move up to better, higher-paying work, but no one is going to pay an unproven beginner right out of school top dollar.

It's called paying your dues, and we all have to do it.

Tell him to get involved in the offshore industry all he needs is a few safety courses and what not and he can go work on a rig, barge or vessel and earn tons of cash. Electricians earn allot of money on oil rigs.

Go back to school? Two year degrees aren't amazing in the job market, and depending on the school, may not be worth much of anything. What school did he attend?
