The tattoo is in curly lettering so maybe I have a few words off, but I was wondering if anyone knows the significance of that, like a movie quote, lyric etc? He won't tell me!

Well if he's your friend and he won't tell you, maybe he doesn't want you to know the meaning to him. Sometimes tattoos are extremely personal and he may not feel comfortable telling you yet. I searched, as I'm sure you have, and nothing came up. Best advice is to stay patient and if he wants to tell you someday, he'll tell you!
