Sadly more info is needed on the nature of the problem. Why was he unable to "get it in?" Was it a size issue, him being too big or too small to fit (or likewise, she being too big or small)? Was he having trouble maintaining an erection? Was it just simple anxiety about the thought of putting it in?

its really common, it happens to a lot of people first time the try.
he needs to be fully hard and she needs to be very wet, and most people go for penetration too soon because they don't realise this, and/or feel to nervous or excited or under pressure to get fully aroused. also, once they cant get it in they feel more nervous and it makes them even less aroused.
you need to just take your time, relax and enjoy yourselves. manually or orally get eachother ready first, and have lube handy aswell, you'll probably need it.
