question and vet is closed.? The doctor lanced the wound and he didn't tell me that I needed to keep it open. He called today, three days later to tell me about it and one of the incisions is still open. He told me to warm it up every day for 10 - 15 minutes with a warm wash cloth which will encourage it to drain. He also prescribed Clavamox which she is taking as prescribed, twice a day for 10 days, with a small meal. Anyway, the wound is below the right ear on the side/back of her head. I am wondering how long to keep it open (lanced on Monday) and what else I should do to keep it clean. My vet does not feel hydrogen peroxide is safe for her. My other concern is that she is nursing her 12 day old kittens so anything I use has to be safe for them as well. I would appreciate any professional, knowledgeable responses; serious answers only. I would call my vet but they are closed for the day. I'm wondering how long to keep it open because she has to wear a cone and has a hard time grooming herself and her babies with it on and I am hoping she doesn't have to wear it much longer. She has 7 more days of antibiotics to go.

Also, she was a stray kitty I found and took in. She has been tested for FIV/FeLV and is negative. She will be spayed once the kittens are weaned, and the kittens will also be spayed/neutered once they are at the recommended weight.

Thank you for your help with this.
Okay, thanks guys, what is safe to wash it with, keeping in mind she's nursing? There were two incisions, but one healed and I am trying to keep the other one open. Will the antibiotics help to kill the bacteria too?
I do thake the cone off when I am with her, but she has to wear it overnight and when I work because she will dig it with her back feet. :-( Poor kitty! I feel sorry for her in the cone.
