I have a 6 inch texas cichlid that was given to me by a friend. He is in a 20 gallon tank by himself. I don't know if he got startled or what but yesterday he went berserk ( darting out of he water/ hitting side of tank 9 or 10 times) when my cousin was about to feed him. Because of this he ended up loosing some of his scales ( he scraped himself with one of the aquarium decorations which I now took away) and his eyes turned black.
Now he is barely moving, and when he swims he kinda tilts side ways. He is also just staying at a corner and I think he is having a hard time breathing. The filter is new + temperature of tank is in normal range. He doesn't want to eat etc. I am afraid to approach tank because he might go crazy again. What should I do? I also added non iodized salt ( 1 tsp) yesterday for his wounds and changed about 25% of water.
He was overall a good fish, a little aggressive but managable. I've had hin for 3 months, with minor problems. Aggressiveness started becoming an issue 3 weeks ago when I changed feeds. Could it be the food?Pls help . Prior to incident yesterday his physical features were fine- now his eyes are black..
