My first Jeep project, I'm swapping a 258 I-6 Jeep motor for a 4.3 v6. ?

My 1982 Cj7 has the T-5 trans. in it. Should I buy the bellhousing adapter and keep the T-5 or get a GM trans. to go with the v6? If I keep the T5 how much trouble will I have? If I get a new trans, which one should I go for and will I only need a transfer case adapter? Thanks.
