confused guy

I've been going to school and qualified for a federal pell grant. At first it was more than enough to cover my tuition and some. Currently though, expenses have emerged so i applied for a school loan. I was approved last semester for the loan and received two different checks, one for the grant and one for the loan. This time around, one semester later, i only received one check and see that they have included both together but the i did not receive the full grant amount i qualified for. Is this because of the loan? From what i know, one should not affect the other. If anyone has any idea why this happened your help is greatly appreciated.
