About 7 months ago, my boyfriend and I got engaged. Due to money issues we decided to wait 2 years to get married in July of 2011. I found out through email, that my fiance had called them and asked if they could help pay for it as they said they would when we got engaged. However the email I received is from his parents that was very rude. So he is 29 and I am 26, we have lived together for 3 years, and the email stated that we are spending too much money on a wedding, their daughters wedding was only 3,000 dollars and only had 6 people included which is what we should do as well. That $8,000 is way too much to spend total on a wedding. I have not responded and don't plan to, however I did forward it to future hubby to see what he thinks of it. I don't understand why they were so nice to him on the phone, and then sent me a nasty email about it. I don't see what his sisters wedding (they had a destination wedding and again other than the bride and groom there were 4 witnesses). Our wedding is going to involve family and friends, and my family is fairly large, so the cost went up a bit, however I have cut deals with places for flowers, food ect. I told my BF that I don't want them helping with our wedding because of the way they are acting, and when he read the email he was very upset with his parents. Because it is in many ways an issues between him and his parents, I don't want to be involved, however, we will be married soon and I will be part of the family as well. I don't know if I should stand up and say something on behalf of my BF or just let him take care of it. What should I do, if anything? Also, why do you think the nasty email was sent to me? I never asked them for money, I'm very hurt by this.
I was never expecting them to pay for anything, they are the ones who brought it up. I made sure our budget was one we could handle on our own. Again, I NEVER asked them for money.
Again people, I don't need their help, my parents saved up some money and I have most of the rest.
