That is caused by a worn out set of valves as well as rings. More valves if left idling for five and plumes of smoke occur when you step on the gas.
You need the engine rebuilt as the whole engine geneally wear out at the same time.
I had a 454 in my old pontiac gran prix ....very fast

IF IT ONLY DOES IT AFTER ITS PARKED AWHILE IT;S PROBABLY THE VALVE GUIDES . iF TI DOES IT EVERY TIME YOU START IT IT MAY BE THE RINGS, IF IT DON;T USE OIL OR GET ANY WORSE I WOULDN'T WORRY ABOUT IT. 454 MOTORS ARE KNOWN TO DO THAT

coming out the exhaust.? it also smokes when i step on it and the engine revs in the high rpms. Other than that you cant tell it burns oil and you cant see it, does anyone know what the problem is? would it be my heads or the rings causing this problem?

It's most likely the valve stem seals. It's a really cheap fix if you do it yourself.

A good indication that it's probably the seals and not the rings would be if you get a lot of buildup on your plugs.

don't worry it's not anything serious. smoke on the start up is a good indication that the valve stem seals need to be changed. It's a very simply and cheap fix. Go to any auto part store and buy a chiltons manual for your vehicle (about $20.00) and look in the index under valve seals. the seals are cheap and the process can be done in an afternoon. good luck and let me know how it goes or if you need help
