my Ducati 750ss has a battery light problem?

Its something thats only just developed, and I can only think it might be some wiring issue.

What it's doing is the battery charge light doesnt really go off (to suggest it charging) unless the headlight is on?? When out of gear it goes off in this way no problems, however when I'm running the bike in 2nd or above, the battery charge light always seems to remain in a faded glow, again with the headlight on. When I put the headlight off the battery light shines bright again, running or not.
Other things to note are, we put a tester on and the battery appears to charge when you rev the bike, it certainly lights to the correct reading you'd expect... however we have only tested this with the bike in neutral, when the battery light goes out as its meant to (not running when it doesnt go out fully).
Also this only started after we made some kinda rack to hold a givi topbox. Once this was done my rear indicator stopped working due to a wire issue (under the seat), which a wiggle soon fixed.

Sorry for the essay, was giving as much info as I could..... does any of this ring familiar with any fellow ducati riders?
Any suggestions are appreciated

Though I wonder if its a wiring issue, I have considered an alternator or even a rectifier problem, but before I go buying replacements I'd want to try narrow it down better.
