I have two toy poodles, one is 4 and the other is 3, both are brothers we rescued from a shelter. the litter of 3 had been abandoned and we would've taken home another their sister but she died shortly before the shelter rescued her from malnourishment. this was about 3 years ago and they've behaved so well since then.
but now the youngest, oreo, is starting to bark whenever we put him outside for a bathroom break. the oldest, cookie, won't bark, but just stand there. We've told him 'no' and yelled at him to be quiet but he'll continue to bark until we let them in. he'll do this everytime we let them out to go to the bathroom, but the key thing is, he'll only do it at night. if we let him out in the morning or afternoon, he won't bark at all (unless he see's a rabbit or someone walking behind the fence).
his barking makes me nervous about irritating our neighbors (the neighbor on our left used to have a pomeranian and she'd bark 24/7).
how do i get him to stop barking when he wants to come in? i only leave both of them out there about 15 minutes but he barks after at least 5 minutes and i'm not sure if both have had adequate time to use the bathroom before the long night. and i can't keep running down from the upstairs to yell at him everytime he barks. even the yelling doesn't seem to get through to him. i'll yell and then 2 minutes later he's barking again.
it's just very frustrating because he hasn't done this before. it started about a month ago and now its become a bad habit which we can't seem to get rid of.
