I recently got a 20 pound dog and most of the time he is the nicest dog I have had (he will bark but that's about it). Well I started taking him to the dog park and he got along great with the dogs. One day there was a Min Pin and a Chihuahua whose owners didn't seem to care that their dogs were obnoxiously barking. My dog is overly friendly and will want to run around and can invade another dog's "personal space", but he does it to play and get to know them. Anyway, one of them snapped at my dog and my dog started fighting the other one. I quickly took him out of there even though the other people didn't seem to care that their dogs were being aggressive. Anyway, since then I changed parks and he gets along great with the regulars but then another dog got snippy with him and he started fighting again! We both apologized and left. A few weeks later, everything seemed fine and a VERY submissive girl dog came in and he was playing with her fine but out of nowhere he got aggressive with her too! I have no idea where this comes from because he is not from an aggressive breed and most of the time he is fine! I have since stopped taking him to the dog park and am just using my parent's back yard to exercise him. I am having him trained better but I do not know if I should take him back to the park or not. I don't want him to never be around other dogs anymore. Btw, none of the fights have ever lead to any blood or wounds of any kind so Idk what that is about. He is never aggressive toward humans. Is there anything I can do?
Like I said, I was giving him the benefit of the doubt since he was fine most of the time except for when a dog snapped first. I stopped taking him and got worried when he got aggressive with a submissive female dog. That worried me. I am going to be speaking to a dog trainer that has dealt with this but I just want opinions from other dog owners for now. He is fixed btw.
Oh I am positive it was aggression. He is a rough player and has A LOT of energy and I can tell when he is playing. This was most definitely aggressive fighting.
