My dog whines or cries sometimes when he has a new toy in his mouth?

When we get a new toy or a new bone for our dog, he puts it in his mouth and walks around whining loudly. He's not teething because he's already way past that stage. What does it mean? I'm not sure maybe sometimes the bone/toy is not new. But he'll pick it up and walk around and cry. This happens rarely, but still wondering if anyone knows why that is?
