My dog was groomed badly, wanting my money back. Help?

I took my King Shepherd to get groomed Saturday at a popular pet store chain. I told the lady that every time we'd bring him in we'd just get his ends trimmed up but I wanted him a bit shorter than that and yes I did use the word "shave." We talked about how short I wanted him shaved and she showed me samples of hair that had the different size blades used. I wanted the size #5, which to my knowledge is the one that allows the most hair, atleast it appeared that way on the samples and I told her I wanted to leave atleast an inch of fur. She said ok and I signed the consent form (Big mistake) and released my dog.

Well, when I got him back, he is basically bald, maybe 1/8 inch of hair left, except his head, tail and legs. That was NOT what I wanted. I told the lady that he looks horrible and it wasn't what I wanted. So I told her I wasn't going to pay. They told me that they won't hand over my dog until I paid. (Now I found out that legally they can't do that) So I paid & took my dog home.

Now, I am fighting with the company to get my money back. They told my fiance yesterday that they would give me my money back or a free groom but the grooming manager will call. She called today and it turned into an argument. Basically stating the groomer explained everything clearly to me and that I signed the paper. I told her if she explained throughly that he would look how he ended up looking I NEVER would've signed and agreed to that. The best she offered was a free grooming and I told her I wanted my money back because I refuse to bring him there again, and I have been going to this place for going on 3 years.

Is there anyway to get my money back? Has anyone else had a similar issue and got their money back? I don't know if there is another step I could take except calling the corporate office. Please help.
Thanks for the feedback but I really didn't ask if I should still fight or not. I want to try, so I don't want to let it be or worry about other things in my life. That's not what I was asking. Thanks.
Thank you Tam :o)
But the paper didn't say anything about shaving or the blade. It was the basic "I agree to get my dog groomed" contract. Maybe they do need to fix their swatches. Plus, I know about the undercoat and the damage shaving it can cause which is why when I left, I was certain they weren't going to shave his undercoat, but legally, shouldn't they advise people regarding the harm that shaving the undercoat could be?
I'm not "chalking" it up. They could have changed his coat for the life of my dog. I paid money for a particular service, a service that was agreed upon and understood. What I got was not the service I wanted. If I was getting my hair done and it was butchered I would not go back, so neither will my dog. Bottom Line!
