My dog wakes up at 2:00AM acting weird every night. Help?

Now that winter is here we bring our chocolate lab inside where it is warm.
Every night, without fail, she wakes up around 2:00 AM, and runs crazily through our house waking everyone up. If we pet her, yell, or turn the lights on, she gets a strange looking cheesy grin and stays calm (I see it and think "high") . Some nights she will wake up again later and run again. We have tried letting her outside in case she needed to go, but she just runs back up to the back door. We have also tried putting up a gate which is easily knocked down, and thus is no help.
Any answers?
 
Maybe she comes to life at night time. Sounds to me like she is wanting to play.
 
I would think that your dog did not exercise enough in the day thus it is super active at night.

I would suggest that you drain your dog energy completely so tha they can sleep soundly at night.
Do check if there are other animals/ strangers in the premises, they do get very sensitive with this.

It is good to try to identify other sources of fear--if is lightning/ thunder that is frightening to him.

Also suggest to have a sleeping toy for him meaning once he sees that toy , he understands that it is his sleeping time.
