haunting me..help!? Okay, today at about 7 pm, it's still quite sunny here in Northern California. Anyway, my large german shepherd dog and I were hanging out in the backyard when all of a sudden, from the right side of the street, our faraway neighbor where walking her 3 dogs (1 border collie, 1 large mixed breed and 1 chihuahua)....they were not on the leash when being walked because they're actually trained dogs. Anyway, my dog happened to jump our 3-foot fence and walked over to the 3 dogs right across the street. He sniffed the two larger ones and almost got into a fight with the largest by growling at each other (my dog being the other dog growling). I immediately ran after my dog to get him back to the house but he wouldn't. The walker, a Caucasian woman, who I know obviously has experience with dogs because she seems like a good trainer, grabbed my dog's collar and kind of shoved him aside....my dog however didn't react to that at all. He obviously didn't intend to hurting the woman but was just after the two larger dogs....that's all that basically happened though. He growled at the two dogs and then I managed to grab him afterwards. It's haunting me a bit because I pictured my dog jumping off a fence without listening to me,..no actual physical fight between the dogs happened but they seemed to be REALLY growling at each others heads if you get what I mean. Now my dog is in punishment by not getting to be able to sleep indoors for tonight (my stubbord father said so. My german shepherd I think is a nice dog. It's too tolerant that it wouldn't jump even when people walk by. Only when he sees cats and dogs he couldn't tolerate. Please don't give me mean or insulting answers because I myself didn't intend for the scene to happen.
PS: I actually didn't happen to see 3 dogs and the walker/owner even coming because they were coming from the right side of the street that was barely visible to me. See, another woman happened to have walked past our house from the LEFT side and then I instructed my dog to "leave" her by not running at the fence and so he didn't. THEN, he hopped up the top of the fence as if he was looking at something. I assumed he was just looking after the woman who walked past the house but turned out, he was looking at the dogs and walker coming from the right side. I really didn't know. I am afraid that she might have called the local animal control and reported my dog when nothing actually happened. I know where the woman lives because I walk past her house all the time. I plan on knocking on her door and apologize for what even happened. Though, I hope she understands that my dog isn't exactly a threat. I mean, he didn't react at all when she grabbed his collar and shoved him away. What do you think?
PS#2: Did I mention the three dogs being walked were also NOT on a leash? I believe so. PLEASE tell me your opinion!
