We just brought him home today at 4 pm, no more than 7 hours ago. He is a totally cool dog, australian cattle dog. He is a little over one year. He is chill, and hyper, but a nice friendly dog. He is in the crate right now in my bathroom, and is whining constantly. I'm worried about the neighbors and plus he sounds like he is in pain, but he is fine. What should I do? Should I attempt to stop the whining? Throw water at him from a distance? Throw anything at the cage. He has been whining for about an hour and a half.

there must be a reason why your dog is doing this..
check his paws,ears, and everything..
go to a vet and have him checked up..
your dog must be stressed

ok look in his paw and see if anything is in there or if that's not it check if he has ticks or just give him a bath!!

Leave him alone.

If you cater to his whining, he'll learn that whining gets him attention.

Next time you put him in his crate, put it where he can hear and smell you. It will help relax him. Also, try added a shirt of yours and something warm. DO NOT do this now, leave him alone for the rest of the night.

You have allowed him to cry this long..thats really sad. He is new. If you adopted a child would you throw water on him to shut him up?
Check his feet, to make sure he didn't step on something. THEY DON'T WHINE FOR NO REASON!! Maybe he is not use to a crate..he is friggen scared..

If my dog was whinning that long I would have taken him out of the crate and held him and loved him to show him that he was welcome in his new home.

Worried cause the neighbors could turn you in for animal abuse of a crying dog, open the window. You sound like maybe a dog isn't for you.

Trust me your going to get some hate mail for your lack of compassion for one of God's creatures!
