My dog is a cairn terrier, which I'm under the impression is a high strung breed. He spends half the day barking at the neighbors outside the window, and the only way to make him stop is to go over and pull him away. He also acts really hyper on walks, pulls on the leash and whimpers and barks at anyone or anything he sees. I have tried some of the techniques on TV like stopping or walking the other direction but he has this really crazed look in his eyes and doesn't respond at all until whatever he's barking at goes away.
In the car he is a mess. He whimpers and cries the entire ride and won't relax unless I pet him constantly. I have to make him wear a harness and buckle him into the seat or else he'll run around all over the car and bark.
He is also embarrassing to take to the dog park, even though he REALLY LIKES other dogs. He gets in their faces and barks at people who are outside of the park, he also runs all over the place until he's totally exhausted. Basically my dog is a nutcase when he's not at home. Is there some way to break this behavior?
