My Dodge Caravan is making chirping sounds!! What could it be? Help Please!!?

A little while ago, my 2003 Dodge Caravan started making this chirping sound after about 5 minutes of driving. It would go away as soon as I put the car in park. I tried replacing the battery thinking that maybe the old one was draining power from the alternator. It didn't work. Now it's not only making the chirping sound, (sounds like there's a birds nest in the car) it's making kind of a groan when I turn the car off. Like a waaaaaaaaa and fades out. I need help!! I'm a single mother with 2 kids, I don't have anyone to ask and I'm trying to avoid the mechanics to diagnose it, because as soon as they take one look at me, they're going to see an opportunity to make easy money!! I will take it to a mechanic, but I want to know what it could possible be, so they won't take advantage of me. Please, any ideas or suggestions would be so greatly appreciated!
 
Sounds like worn belt. I am pretty sure the caravan uses a single serpentine belt to power all accessories. Look to see (with the engine not running) if the belt is cracked or glazed evidencing wear. To replace the belt, if bad, should not be more than $50-70 including the cost of the belt.
 
I would check the serpentine belt. Depending on the mileage of the vehicle it could be worn and need replacement and it can make obnoxious chirping noises that can go away.
 
Idler Pulley, The chirps that you are hearing and "waaa's" are the bearings going out. Either Idler Pulley or Tensioner Pulley.
