Don't Blame me

I went to the ER today and they told me I had viral bronchitis and a common cold and told me there was nothing they could do except give me some cough medicine so I could sleep through the night. Well they gave me a prescription for tussionex (hydrocodone and chlorpheniramine) and I took the 5 ml dose as I was told, but it isn't working. My throat and head still hurts and I still have a nasty cough.
Is there anything I can take that may actually work? It seems like this is pretty strong stuff and is given out sparingly because it is narcotic, but it isn't helping.
