Support they said my Hard Drive....? My Dell Inspiron began running a black screen error message at start-up (and wouldn't allow me to run into safe mode)

I called Dell Tech Support they said my Hard Drive needed to be replaced, they quoted me $87
The Hard Drive model is a Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 HDT725025VLA380
(my comp is about 3-4 years old)
Newegg.com sells Hitachi Deskstar's for cheaper, but they don't have the older model.
Are most of these Deskstar Hard Drives able to be swapped out with one another???
