my dad has asthma

my dad has asthma and he doesn't care to get it checked from the doctor. is there any test that can help to find out that how bad is he suffering from it ? is there any medicine that can successfully eliminate it ?
 
There is no cure for asthma but it can be controlled. However, he would have to go for a pulmonary function test to determine how much damage there is and get with the doctor about treatments.
