So, i'm not sure if am making an unwise decision or not....I have a horrible achy spot in my esophagus, my esophagistis has WORSENED after trying 3 or 4 different ppi's and i have tried sooooo many things that i've posted on here after having this for oh sooo many months now. I take prilosec twice a day 20 mg, i have been taking the pm dose every 2 days now. I feel alot less bubbling in my stomach and fullness. But i am getting some of the rebound reflux treating with aloe vera juice and dgl). I am sure many on here are pro ppi and don't want to touch my difficult case with a 10 foot poll (opinion wise) buuuut what if ppi's are making me sicker?? My digestive problems have gotten sooooo much worse since dr upped my dose last October, its never gone away, every day. Dr of course says its not meRAB (but i've heard this before and it was). I really don't want another endoscopy right now (last one was July 2009-mils esophagitis and gastritis) b/c i hated my last one and b/c he is going to confirm an erosion or ulcer where i feeel and then what i've had horrific side effects with carafate (which coats ulcers), ppi's, he doesn't want me on the reglan drugs due to side effects i am prone to (anxiety, depression), so it will just make me worry and visulaize what is there, i want to heal it. But i am really hoping in my crusade to survive this (i've lost 25 lbs on already slim frame, i'm down to 111) that i do not have a bleeding ulcer that will perforate my throat? *sigh* I am truly realizing that i have never felt sicker than after he upped my dose last year. I have a good theory as to what caused my first episode last June 2009 that caused me to seek help (medcines, stress and diet) but i feel like my body does not like ppi's.

Throwing this out there to see what others have gone through. Thnaks for reading.

Ps. I just read a book i saw posted on here (some time ago), yesterday and its amazing, for every digestive ailment. Probably the best and most thorough book i have ever gotten on digestion...No More Heartburn by Sherry Rogers...anyone read it?

Acid Reflux and Obstructive Sleep Apnea- One of the leading causes of Reflux is OSA. It is treatable with PAP therapy, which is noninvasive as it is only air! If your physician has not referred you to have a sleep study, perhaps you need a different physician. I am amazed at how many physicians do not order sleep studies when patients report so many indications!

I am amazed at this post and thank you! My dr wants me to do a sleep study for a different reason, never even mentioned my reflux- I was going to put it off, but I will do it now!!

Hi Marygold:

I read the book and found it very interesting. The supplement regimens listed sound a bit complicated and I am not sure which one would apply to me without consulting with a physician versed in more natural remedies. But I was glad to read yet another authoritative source recommend DGL. Not sure about all the other remedies she recommenRAB. I am trying to keep a more natural diet and include the "rainbow" that she talks about in her book.

I was also glad to find one MD who is not a great proponent of PPI's and H2 blockers, though I am not sure I am ever going to be able to be medicine free.

Well thank you guys....I have decided to seek a naturopathic dr. I spoke to him yesterday and will see him Monday. He suspects i may have leaky gut, i have been wondering myself this for awhile, since i have reactions to so much, anyways, we shall see. I also began a wheat free day yesterday. All i know is my GI dr's way is NOT working, there is a better way. I thought there was such an interesting line in that book about why is it that our society thinks people, whom were born were perfectly functioning LES muscles all of a sudden are told their LES muscles don't work anymore in mid or late life. It just doesn't add up to me. I think it desn't add up to alot of people whom ppi's and the like don't work for or stop working. Take care:)
