My Chevy s10 will start and than die,I changed the ignition (The Key) and set off the

security light,..? The truck will turn over and die, it wont even idle for 3 seconds...I took it to a dealership cause i guess only a dealer can reset it...They refused to work on it saying that had tampered with it, I said yes I did , it needed a new key..(They were pushing me towards buying a new or used car)..By code or some crap they couldn't work on it.. There has to be a way around it..I am out of Options,,Any help out there?
