I know, I need to take him to the vet. Right now it's nighttime though, and I honestly don't know how serious it is.
My cat is primarily an indoor cat but he likes to go outside in the summer. I've been trying to keep him in at night but my mom insists on putting him out ALL THE TIME. He's not aggressive and has no front claws, and we have racoons and neighborhood cats that like to fight other cats.
Anyway, early this morning my cat comes in with a BALD SPOT on top of his head and a small wound. It's not bleeding heavy but there is yellow pus coming out. He must have just gotten this wound last night. The hair is sort of flaking off around the area. He appears calm and not in immense pain.
My mom cleaned the wound with peroxide and used antibiotics. She refuses to clean it with warm water, I don't know why.
What is this generally a sign of? If it's an infection, why is it spewing yellow pus so quickly? Should we immediately take him to a hospital or try another remedy? We have no money for this so I don't know what to do.
I'd just like to add: we didn't force him out. He likes to sit in our yard in the summer and usually doesn't go far, but this summer he started staying out at night too and was hard to catch.
For my part I was trying to keep him in at night and make sure he was hydrated. Other people in my house would let him out against my wishes.
I also wouldn't have gotten this cat without knowing I could afford it- it was my mother's idea to bring him home from someone who was going to bring him to a shelter.
He unfortunately isn't up on his shots, which I assume means he could very easily die or have rabies. I'm not happy about this situation, trust me. If I had any money I would have taken him to get the shots myself, but most of this really isn't my choice, it's other people in the house doing whatever stupid stuff they think is best, and now look at the result....
