My cat is an older cat and he was in the garage then next thing we know he is like crying we let him in and he is limping but there is no open wound on his arm. Its swelled triple size in about three hours and can't walk now and its hot to the touch what could it be and what should we do. Its to late to take him to the vet and money is tight so I don't know what to. It could be some kind of bite but can't find any open marks or bleeding.

Maybe you should ask a close friend for some money for the cat. My cat had a big lump on his side for about a week and it burst we brought him right to the emergency and it was an infected bite. So just because you can't see it does not mean there is nothing there. So you should really take your cat to the vet to get looked at no matter what!

Could be a distortion, strain, a dislocation or even a fracture.

Could be a tiny would which got infected as well (e.g. ant bite, wasp sting, a tiny piece of glass walked into it's paw, ...)

Since it swell within a short time, is hot and your cat shows discomfort I would consider it as an emergency case.
Therefore call your vet (or an ER vet clinic), explain the situations (your cat's one and your financial) and ask if they would offer a payment plan if the bill would be above your limit.

And then simply bring your cat to a vet since it needs medical help.

If you have a low payed job only, it may help if you start a piggy bank for your cat's health.
So you can save up money over the time of few months to have some extra bucks for any unexpected vet visits in emergency situations like this.
