My car won't shift out of park?

My 2003 Saab 9-3, automatic transmission, is having problems shifting out of park. The emergency message on my dashboard says that there is a "Stability Control Failure," but I don't exactly know what that means. Obviously, I'm planning to take it in to get fixed ASAP, but if I can't get it out of park, I won't be going far. Any suggestions?
