My car was seized but the cops won't accept my documents?

My car was seized by the police for not having insurance (my insurance company cancelled it as i fell behind by 2 payments and said they sent me a letter which i did not receive, i did call before they cancelled it to sort out payment options and everything was ok), i have been to the police impound 4 times and each time i keep getting told i was given the wrong info last time. I went to pick the car up today with all the docs they said i needed but they still refused to release the car as i don't have the V5, i explained on all occasions that the car belonged to my sis who has now got married and moved to Northern Ireland and that i drove the car on my insurance. the 1st time i was told to go to the DVLA and get it put into my name and bring a comp slip with their stamp to prove i've done this and then they will accept this, i did this only to be told that because i did this after the car was impounded it's not valid (when i said that one of your guys had advised this he told me i was given the info). I was then told by this officer that if i got a letter of authorisation from my sis saying she agreed to put the car in my name before it went into the impound and a copy of her photo drivers licence then i would be ok, i have gone in today to pick up my car and have been told that they will not accept this document and want an original V5 document. I explained that the car was purchased 3 years ago from an online salvage company (accident damage) and they did not supply us with one and that the V5 in my name could take up to 30days. He told me that they would just crush the car and make me pay for any charges, is there no justice?

Please can someone help? Is there a way around this?
