my car shuts off when i slow down to stop, does anyone know the problem?

i have a 1990 Oldsmobile 98 that i got from a relative. its been looked over and we thought most of the problems had been fixed. the first time i drove it, i stopped at the end of the driveway to pull out and it shut off. there have been over 6 similar incidents. more frequently when i'm pulling into the driveway to park. i don't want the problem to start happening on the road. it would be much appreciated if someone could help me to know where to look for a problem. if you have an idea of what the problem may be, that would be very helpful.
