It sounds like you need a new serpentine belt. It should be located on the front passenger side. Very inexpensive repair if you have someone to replace it for you. The best way to find out if that is the problem, Buy some preston belt spray at your automotive store, and spray it on the belt whhel while the car is running. If the squelling stops than that is a temporary fix until you can replace the belt.

Does it make any noise while idling? It's hard to tell anything about your problem. You should get someone to look at it and maybe they can tell you.

Good Luck

Try to isolate where the noise is coming from. Turn the engine on, let the car warm up and open the hood. With the transmission in Park or Neutral, and the hand brake applied, step on the gas and see if the noise is coming from the engine bay. You might need a friend to help you isolate the noise. If it's a screeching noise, it could be the fan belt as others have said. If you only hear it while driving, it could be a wheel bearing or something in your transmission. I don't mean to make it sound so serious, but my sister had a similar problem and it turned out to be the transmission carrier bearing.
