My car makes a kind of squeeling sound, usually for a limited time after I start it?

Soon after starting my car makes a loud squeeling type noise. If I rev my engine to a high enough rpm level it stops but usually persists for at least 10 minutes on and off. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?
