My car made a weird grinding sound this morning..?

I was driving down into an underground car park and I was turning the steering wheel and it was making this weird grinding sound as I was moving (I wasn't braking but I need to get my brake pads changed in the next few days) I was going about 10kph at the time, is this just my brakes, even though I wasn't touching them or could it be something else? This is the first time its done it and when I do break sharp it makes the same noise but I wasn't braking when this happened =/ Thanks!
 
The wear indicator of the brake pads is making noise to remind you to get a brake job before your pads are completely gone. The part making the noise is a metal tab on the pad assembly that rubs against the rotor when the pad is too worn.
