My camera, a Sanyo VPC-E1075, won`t show up on my computer. Help?

Okay. I load up my computer, and its on. I go to plug in my USB cord, and I plug in the camera. Then I press the power button.

The lense opens up(its never done that before), and the screen goes black. It wont read the camera!! D:

Any ideas? Is it the cord, and should I purchase a new one?
