I bought this car a week and a half ago roughly and today after some driving i started smelling gas.. a strong odor.. then when i got back in it after being off for about 45 mins 1/4 tank had leaked out, figuring it was 5 and no garage would be open i thought if i could make it home and call a place tomorrow i would be ok, but in about 3 miles another 1/4 had came out of it, and so i stopped so i wouldnt get blown up and left it, it looks like the leak is coming from close to the engine and closer to the driver side -
i hope that makes sense its a 1999 buick regal, is this a common thing, what does it sound like?? besides the obvious leak answer
thanks

It is hard to say exactly what is happening but it must be a major leak and therefore potentially dangerous. I would get it checked out before risking driving it again. You may look into whether you state has lemon laws which will enable you to get your money back within a certain amount of time

I'll tell you where it's got to be. From your gas tank there are two lines that run up to your engine. One delivers the fuel under pressure, and the other allows extra fuel to drain back into the tank. Your leak has to do with one of those two lines. Those two lines basically run up into the engine area, and connect to a fuel rail. The fuel rail is what your injectors get their fuel from. It has to be around in this area. It's likely a connection that has came lose. It could be a hole in the lines or fuel rail or an injector isn't sealing right. In that area is where you'll find your problem.

Somebody likely did some work on the fuel injectors recently, and didn't do a good job at putting things back together. Perhaps they forgot to put the o-rings back on or something.
