close to him.? I am trying to help him. We live in Long Island NY in Suffolk county. It's from a debt collector company. he needs to appear in count in 30 days. he owns about 10,000 in credit cards. Due to financial struggles and child support and half of his daughters collage tuition he is living pay check to pay check. He already has two full time jobs. He is trying to do the right thing. What should he bring to court with him? He cant afford a lawyer...will one be appointed to him? Should he worry that his check will be garnished? Child support is already coming out of his check and he doesn't make a lot of money. Please advise thank you
 
I doubt a lawyer will be appointed... he should call legal aid / legal services and see if they will help. Also he should call the NY State Bar and see if they can refer him a reduced or free lawyer. He NEEDS counsel in a bad way. Do not let him go this alone
 
Bring in how much he makes in a week, and prove where it goes. And that he cant afford to pay it back right away. And he may be able to talk to the judge to give him time to pay it back. Also if you want a lawyer that is pretty cheap on doing Bankrupcty contact me.
