My brakes grab and car slides when I put the brakes on fast or if the road's wet.?

I bought a 90 Oldesmobile Cutlass Ciera. The guy I bought the car from said it had a cracked cylinder or something like that, but he said he fixed it. I don't know if he lied, or if something else is wrong w/ them. Any ideas?
