Now they are saying that he can't go into the field he chose (the IT program) on account of security clearance. What is Security clearence and what other fields in the navy are there, that he will be able to go into that don't have it. Will we still get nice looking paychecks? And will he ever be cleared of the sleep walking?

one does not 'mistakenly' sleepwalk.

if he is a sleep walker is is more likely to get DISCHARGED completely as he is not world wide deployable./ last thing the Navy needs is somebody sleepwalking over the side of the ship when it is underway.

i dont think its a security clearance issue more a security nightmare.. he can ask to be tested for sleep disorders.. but there is no way in hell i would want i guy on patrol with me who sleep walks.. people get killed..

Sleepwalking is not generally considered compatible with military service. He could wander off into a dangerous area of a ship in his sleep and get himself or someone else killed. He might be on his way home soon - that will be up to the Navy to determine.

If he does get to stay, all servicemembers are paid by rank, not specialty. A few specialties get extra pay, like pilots and doctors and linguists, but in general your pay is based on your rank, not your job.
