pushed me down on the sofa? should I be nervous that he might become abusive when arguing?
 
you females seem to like getting up in guys face when in an argument.

Talk to him about it...
tell him that you don't appreciate when he pushes you.
It was only a push but I would be careful if he does something like that again.
 
Depends...were you in his face and he felt like he had no other way to get out of the situation..if you had done it to him would you expect him to think you'd be abusive towards him?

It could have just been a reaction for him to get you out of his face. I would discuss it with him and find out exactly why he reacted the way he did and tell him you didn't like it etc etc.
 
Yes by all means. If he did it once he will do it again. You didn't mention if drugs or alcohol were in play. Irregardless, this could become a trend.
Be up front with him and tell him your nervous about him becoming abusive with you. Move on, there are plenty of people out there who will never get physical with you. This is a bad start. Good Luck.
