My bluetooth wont connect to my ps3, can someone pls help me quickly?

have just pruchased a official sony headset for my ps3, when i try to pair it using the USB cable provided, it is suposed to light up green but it goes red instead which shows that the connection failed. i have done it lots of times but does not work. What am i doing wrong, can anyone help.

And also when you are playing a game online are you suposed to have a microphone symbol by your name.
