Usually popeye is caused by something else. A number of things can cause popeye from poor water quality to a Vitamin A deficiency or a bacterial infection.

You need to determine the root of the cause. What are your water tests coming back like and are you using the fish to cycle. Test your water be sure the quality remains high. Second, check the foods you are feeding your fish. Be sure they have the mineral and vitamin content.

You may need to treat with an antibacterial if all else fails.
