My blackberry won't let me open my text message window?

My blackberry won't let me open my text message window at all. If I pull the battery and wait thirty seconds, I can open it once, but then I have to pull it out again to open it again, etc. I'm talking about entering SMS at all; not the typical error where you can see the new text message and not be able to click on it. I scroll my roller ball over to SMS And MMS, click, and it acts like I'm doing nothing. Same with my email, though other applications will open fine.
I have a Blackberry Curve 8530.
