I have my first road bike, and it is incredible. It may be a bit old, but it is super fast. I even have a speedometer/odometer on it. However it does have a little problem. Firstly, it makes a grinding noise when I ride. It doesn't sound bad, and I have checked many, many times to make sure everything is ok, and no friction. (i treat it like my baby) When I stand up though the noise completely disappears. Therefore, it must be attributed to the weight shift forward that ceases the noise.
The more annoying and troublesome problem is the popping: I don't ever shift since you have to reach down and pull up and down a lever, and I leave it in a good nice high gear where I can get flying. I have found it only pops when I don't accelerate smoothly. When I am smooth everything is great. However, when I am going uphill the popping frequency goes up a lot. And especially when it is wet out (especially when the bike is a bit damp). So when I combine the two, uphill, and wet, it can be quite frustrating because I feel I have to take it easy and I never am able to get my momentum going to really get going like I want.
Additional notes: are that everything looks good and it seems like its all in good shape. I have read some, but I could use whatever perspective and ideas you are willing to throw out. (preferably the free kind). thank you.
